Privacy Policy for BoxBeat
1. Introduction
BoxBeat ("the App") is a workout timer app for training sessions and Competition Mode recordings.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App may process, how it is stored, and what choices you have. The App is developed by a developer based in Germany and is distributed internationally through the Apple App Store.

2. Data We Collect
The App does not require user accounts, cloud synchronization, or a developer-operated backend.
Depending on how you use the App, the App may process the following data on your device:
- workout timer settings and workout configuration,
- local workout history,
- Competition Mode athlete name entered by you,
- Competition Mode workout identifier entered by you,
- Competition Mode proof identifiers generated by the App,
- Competition Mode video recordings,
- optional microphone audio if you enable or allow audio recording,
- local subscription and entitlement state needed to unlock app features,
- local information used to apply Competition proof recording limits before and after subscription.
The App does not currently send this workout or Competition Mode data to a custom server operated by the developer.
3. Camera and Microphone Access
Competition Mode uses the device camera to record competition proof videos.
If enabled, Competition Mode may also use the device microphone to record audio as part of the competition proof video. You can control camera and microphone permissions through iOS system settings.
Competition Mode recordings are created locally on your device. The App does not currently upload these recordings to a developer-operated server.
Important: Competition Mode recordings include permanently burned overlays such as athlete names, workout identifiers, timer information, proof/session identifiers, recording date/time information, app version/build information, and visual watermarks. These overlays become part of the recorded video image itself and cannot be removed from the exported recording.
4. Photos Library Access
Competition Mode proof recordings are always saved to the app's local History.
If you grant Photos permission, Competition Mode also exports proof videos to your Photos library.
When a recording is saved to Photos, it is stored in your Apple Photos library and may be affected by your iCloud Photos settings, device backup settings, sharing actions, or other Apple account settings. Those systems are controlled by Apple and your device configuration, not by the App.
5. Workout and Competition Data
The App stores workout history locally on your device so you can review previous workouts.
Competition Mode stores local metadata such as:
- athlete name,
- workout ID,
- proof ID,
- timer mode and duration,
- recording date/time,
- local video path or thumbnail path,
- app version/build used to create the proof.
Competition Mode is designed to create human-verifiable workout proof recordings with persistent on-video timer and metadata overlays.
The App is not a cryptographic verification or server-attested validation platform. Acceptance of Competition Mode recordings depends on the rules and requirements of the relevant competition, event organizer, gym, federation, judge, or third party.
6. Subscription and Payments
Subscriptions and payments are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit.
The App does not directly collect or store your full payment card details. Apple may process payment information, purchase history, subscription status, refunds, billing issues, and related App Store account information under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
The App may store local subscription entitlement state on your device so that paid features can be unlocked. The App may also check Apple StoreKit entitlement information to confirm whether a subscription is active.
7. Analytics and Tracking
The App currently does not include custom analytics, advertising SDKs, social tracking pixels, or third-party profiling systems.
Apple may provide developers with aggregated App Store analytics, crash reports, sales reports, subscription reports, or diagnostics depending on your Apple settings and Apple's developer tools. These are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple's privacy practices.
8. Data Storage
App data is stored locally on your device.
Local data includes:
- app settings,
- workout history,
- workout presets,
- Competition Mode proof metadata,
- Competition Mode subscription and free proof usage state,
- locally saved recording references,
- subscription entitlement state.
Competition proof videos are also saved to your Photos library if you grant Photos permission. Photos library storage, iCloud Photos synchronization, device backups, and sharing are controlled by Apple and your device settings.
9. Third-Party Services
The App currently relies on Apple services for:
- App Store distribution,
- StoreKit purchases and subscriptions,
- Photos library storage when you save recordings,
- iOS camera and microphone permission systems,
- optional Apple-provided diagnostics, crash reports, and App Store analytics.
The App does not currently use a developer-operated backend, cloud account system, or third-party analytics provider.
Apple's services are governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policies.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, including if you are in the European Union or European Economic Area, you may have rights related to your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of personal data.
Because the App stores its data locally on your device and does not maintain user accounts or server-side profiles, many privacy choices can be exercised directly on your device:
- delete workout history in the App where available,
- delete recordings from Photos,
- revoke camera, microphone, or Photos permissions in iOS Settings,
- delete the App to remove locally stored app data,
- manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID / App Store subscription settings.
For privacy questions or requests, contact: karin.pietruska@icloud.com
11. Children's Privacy
The App is not specifically directed toward children.
The App does not provide user accounts, server-side profiles, or developer-operated cloud storage. App data and recordings are stored locally on the device being used. Competition proof videos may also be saved to the user's Photos library if permission is granted.
If a child uses the App, parents or guardians should supervise use where appropriate and manage device permissions, including camera, microphone, and Photos access, through iOS settings.
12. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time, especially if the App adds features such as user accounts, cloud synchronization, analytics, crash reporting, or server-side proof validation.
Material changes to this Privacy Policy will be communicated in an appropriate way before or when they take effect.
